Does your RV really need outdoor TV?

Is an outdoor television important to your RV lifestyle?

Admittedly, I do not watch much television so I'm already biased in my opinion, but I do recognize that many RVers enjoy watching the tube. I forget when it happened, but at some point in the not to distant past RV manufacturers began offering RVs with the option of an outdoor television.

Since I'm a full-time RVer I have ample opportunity to study the habits of RVers in various styles of RVing. The people I see using the outdoor television the most are the guys. They seem to make the space under the awning the outdoor TV room where they can watch Nascar, football, hockey and stuff their wives might not be interested in.

What I've noticed more than anything is the lack of use of these outdoor televisions. Here is an example of an RV that sat for the whole weekend with the TV door open with nobody watching. I'm not kidding, every time I walked the dog or drove by it looked like this.
So, what looks cool on the showroom floor may not be as useful as you might think. If you use it, great. If you don't, it ends up wasting good storage space and becomes an expensive dust collector.

We installed a outside tv on our rig, when hosting in Idaho we would sit out side and watch it, very relaxing. ON sundays a group would gather to watch nascar, fun for all.

Maybe they were inside fixing a cocktail everytime you walked by? (grin). I watch my outside TV everyday - as long as it's above 55°!

I agree I see this as wasted storage space and you would have to be a nut about TV to want it. But I thought my neighbor was nuts to spend all weekend watching TV puttering around in the garage. To each his own I guess

Hmmmmmmmmmmm, were his/her other TVs off or unused also? Contempt Prior To Investigation.

Last week, I saw a guy leave his TV cabinet open all night. Facing the desert wind in the Yuma area. That dusty wind will kill that TV real quick-like, you betcha. All these fancy electronic gizmos we use are built for stick houses, not totin' around and exposing them to the Great Outdoors.

When we were at the Las Vegas KOA the last time, there was a motorhome with a outside TV that the family used for the kids. Seemed like a good idea.

We avoid like the plague parking close enough to someone whom we might disturb and vice-verse.

When in close proximity to another rig, PLEASE keep your noise inside. Otherwise, watch all the mind-numbing TV you want.

Unfortunately, most people base their rv purchase on the glitz and electronics and not on construction. One reason the rv industry is so highly unregulated. Focus on basics, you can always add a tv or appliance.

What's the big deal. Is it really anybodys business if someone uses their outside TV or not? I think you are running out of things to say! You probably won't print this.

We always use an outside TV..Our motorhome didn't come with an outside TV so I made provisions for one in one of my bays.. I cook most meals outside under the awning and enjoy having the TV on for whatever reason (ballgame,Car race,golf)..Hey what the heck it beats the daylights out of calling in to the wife and asking what's the score or who's leading the race...To each his own...Thanks

I have seen the TV's on the outside and I think it has it's pros and cons. For one, you are not sitting inside the camper all day and not getting any fresh air, if my husband was outside watching the TV the neighbors would be complaining about the level of the volume on the TV, don't we go camping to get away from everyday things like TV's, cell phones, etc? I like to go outside and read or say "Hello" to people as they walk by. I imagine if you are watching a show that someone else watches that that would be a conversation starter also. So, this issue has it's ups and downs.

I DETEST outside TVs on RVs. I camp to get away from TVs, radios, etc. I go to hear birds sing and the wind in the trees. If people want to leave their home TVs to go watch TVs elsewhere, please do it INSIDE the rig with the sound turned down!
