Rest stop parking can be confusing for RVers

We recently stopped at an Indiana welcome center and I was somewhat confused about where to park. I have a 40 foot motorhome with a towed vehicle which adds another 25 feet. Here is the sign that greeted me as we pulled into the rest area. Because my rig is almost as long as most commercial trucks, I opted for the truck parking area. Had I stayed to the left I would have seen the RV parking area and driven past it to the truck parking area because the RV spaces were too short to accommodate our size. I know if I follow the trucks I'll be able to park and maneuver so as a general rule I always go with the trucks to be sure. By the way, welcome centers are great places to pick up free state maps and information on attractions. Resting up for the next road trip - Jim Twamley, Professor of RVing

I agree. The problem is that sometimes there's no way to get to the truck area if you've chosen the other option.

At least you're smart enough to know that at 65 feet your rv is almost as long as an 18 wheeler and park accordingly. How many rvr's aren't? Lots i'll bet!

55 feet max length in Iowa untill Carter made trucking laws more uniform. 80 foot foor SD.

This is similar to trying to park a 40-foot-long RV with a tow in any Cracker Barrel parking lot. Their sign says RV Parking, but the reality is, if you're driving a Class A with tow and you're longer than 30 feet, don't try it.

But sometimes the signs just state Cars one way and Trucks the other way. It's also tricky when you need gas. Sometimes if you choose the Truck route you can't get to the gas pumps!

Looks like if he had followed the right sign for RV's there was a lot of parking space to fit a 65' RV in.

By the picture the RV spaces were empty.

Don't see his problem of not following instructions.

No wonder some truck drivers get mad at RV's parking in their spaces.

Another problem is that many states are closing their rest stops entirely. Some have closed over half of the entire state's rest areas. WalMart to the rescue?
